Description
Wingspan: 54 - 62mm
Worldwide Distribution: Europe - less ( Channel Isles,Ireland,N Russia and most Mediterranean Islands ) to Caucasus and Armenia
UK Distribution: Very rare migrant (< 10 previous UK records) Usually in southern England

Observations: A very rare migrant from Europe, there has been less than ten individuals in the UK the first a larva found on Aspen in 1842.Since then there have been the odd recordings the last occurring in Kent in 2004 & 2006.
The worldwide range of this species occurs in Europe through to the Caucasus and Armenia where two generations occur each year.
The moth is similar to both the iron Prominent and especially the Pebble Prominent so any moth seenshould be retain for verification of this species.
The moth is quite distinctive with blackish grey broad wings, rounded at termen,and tawny brown subterminal line and black edged with white dentate median lines.
