Observations: An exceptionally rare moth only found on two sites in Kent, this moth is fully protected under The UK Wildlife & Countryside Act and is a priority species under the UK Biodiversity Action Plan.This means it is illegal to disturb this moth at all ,including searching by means of a pheromone. The orange red scales on the forewing give this moth its common name and is diagnostic.The moth has two narrow white bands on the abdomen with the female and three with the male.The tail and legs are also covered in orange red tufts and hairs making this moth unmistakable and truly beautiful.

- P. c. sicula Le Cerf 1922 - Italian Mainland,Sicily - Incl. adjacent Italian islands (Lipari Is., Ustica I., Egadi Is., Pantelleria I., Pelagie Is.)
