Description
Wingspan: Male 55-65mm Female - 65-75mm
Worldwide Distribution: Europe - excluding (Azores,Balearic Is.,Canary Is.,Channel Is.,Crete,Croatia,Cyprus,Greece,Madeira,Malta & Portugal) - eastwards to Japan & westwards to North America : Migrant reaching as far north as the Shetland Is.
UK Distribution: Immigrant from southern Europe possibly appearing anywhere in Britain although southern and eastern England most likely.Sometimes arriving in sufficient numbers to breed, with the possibility they are now established in East Anglia

Observations: An easily recognised dark olive green Hawk-moth which can be separated from the Striped Hawk-moth by not having the series of white lines which highlight the similar species wing veins and thorax.
The moth is an immigrant from southern Europe which can appear anywhere in Britain, although most likely in southern or eastern England. It has been recorded throughout Britain and has travelled as far north as the Shetland Isles.
They arrive in sufficient numbers some years to breed, but the resultant early stages do not normally survive our winter.
The worldwide status for this moth takes it from southern Europe eastwards to Japan and westwards to North America.
