Description
Wingspan: 22-25mm
Worldwide Distribution: Europe - (rare in S Europe) eastwards to Vladivostok
UK Distribution: Well distributed and frequent in the British Isles including mainland Scotland and Inner Hebrides but not on higher ground
UK Conservation Status -
Habitat: Broadleaved Woodland : Hedgerows : Gardens

Observations: This moth has prominent black discal spots on all wings. The forewing curves sharply towards the apex.The second cross line towards the costa curves around the discal spots. The cross lines tend to be variable although the subterminal band is usually broad and dark with an irregular white cross line along its outer edge,see photos 5-7. The forewing has black freckles from median area basally.
The moth is attracted to light and sometimes appears at the moth trap in high numbers.
