Similar Species -
Pupa: Pupa have been found in produce imported from abroad.
Observations: The Egyptian Bollworm is native to Asia and Africa and is recorded in southern Europe through Spain and Portugal down to Sicily and Malta and including France.
A very rare immigrant less than ten records to date,larve and dead pupae were found at Heathrow from Kenya and Cyprus back in 1979 and 1980.
With cotton as one of the host plants this moth cause considerable damage in some areas.
Although similar to the the above species the Cream -bordered Green Pea does not have the the dark vertical setae,has a white hindwing and the Spiny Bollworm is identified by the purplish-brown terminal fringe on the forewing.
