Description

Worldwide Distribution: Europe - (excluding - Azores,Balearic Is.,Canary Is.,ChannelIs.,Corsica,Crete,Croatia,Cyprus,Greece,Ireland,Lithuania,
Luxembourg,Madeira,Malta,Portugal,Sardinia,Sicily,Slovenia,Spain,The Netherlands & Ukraine)
UK Distribution: Local in southern England and Wales north to Yorkshire and Cumbria but missing in the north Midlands.

Similar Species:
Overwinters as: Adult
Observations: Summer Generation - see photo 1 below - forewing yellowish brown to dark reddish brown,glossy shining purplish,with a yellowish square patch almost central from costa to wing fold.
Autumn generation - see photos 2 & 3 below - forewing brown or dark reddish brown,glossy,with angled white or yellowish streak from costa at one third to wing fold.
It should be noted that C.falconipennella (Hübner,[1813]) formerly Calybites hauderi (Rebel, 1906) is now treated as the summer brood of C. semifascia.(Micro moths of Great Britain)
Moth is attracted to light.
