Description

Worldwide Distribution: Europe - ( Excluding - Azores,Balearic Is., Canary Is.,Crete,Cyprus,Madeira,Portugal,Sardinia,Slovenia & Ukraine) : Asia Minor : Neartic
UK Distribution: Distributed throughout the British Isles,often commonly in the south : More locally in northern England and Scotland

Overwinters as: Larva
Observations: Forewing cleft cut into lobes at about two thirds,where its reddish brown to yellowish brown with two isolated spots at the base of the clefts.
the costal lobe has a small dot in the terminal cilia and another white cilia along the costal margin.
The S.bipuntidactya group has a greyish brown forewing and the costal lobe is grey with dark cilia on the costal margin.
Visit flowers at night and is attracted to light.
