Worldwide Distribution: Europe - (Excluding - Azores,Balearic Is.,Canary is.,Corsica,Crete,Croatia,Cyprus,Greece,Ireland,Luxembourg,
Madeira,Malta,Portugal,S,N & E Russia & Sicily) : to eastern Asia
UK Distribution: Well established on heathland in Devon,Dorset,Hampshire,Surrrey and Berkshire otherwise scattered colonies from Sussex to Yorkshire,Lancashire,Cheshire and Cumbria : Channel Isles - rare

Overwinters as: part grown larva
Observations: The moth forewings are brownish white,covered in thin blackish scales with varying strength cross lines.There are distinct central black spots on the forewings and a line of black terminal dots.
Although similar to other "Waves" the following applies,Silky Wave is tawny brown,lacking the black central forewing spots, with hindwing spots faint or absent and terninal dots either absent or inconspicuous.The Satin Wave has faint forewing and terminal dots and is nearly always whiter.The Dwarf Cream Wave has terminal dashes instead of dots.
The moth is a Nationally Scarce B species under the UK Biodiversity Action Plan.
Moth flies by dusk and is attracted to light.
