Description
Vernacular Name: Wavy-barred Sable
Wingspan: 14-17mm
Worldwide Distribution: Western Europe - less going eastwards

Similar Species -
Overwinters as: Pupa
Observations: A brownish black moth with a central white cross band which is slightly wavy and continues across all wings. As can be seen in the photo there are also some white spots which appear in the basal area.
This moth is smaller than Pyrausta cingulata (Linnaeus, 1758) and can be separated by the white wavy median band which in the case of the similar species is straighter and less angled, and with the addition of white spots in the basal area.
The moth has two broods occurring between mid April and October.
Flies in sunshine and it attracted to light.
