Description

Luxembourg,Madeira,Malta,Sardinia,Sicily & Slovenia)
UK Distribution: England - nationally scarce - predominate in south-east

Habitat: Chalk Downland : Neutral Grassland : Coastal habitats
Similar Species -
Overwinters as: Larva
Observations: The forewing is dark brown with silvery costal and dorsum streaks which are edged in black equidistant along the forewing with a silver dot in the apical area.
The endangered D.imperialella is similar to this species but lacks the silver basal spots on the dorsum and a conspicuous silver apical spot which is visible from the underside.
This moth is Nationally Scarce B under the UK Biodiversity Action Plan but is quite possibly overlooked and unrecorded in many areas within its range, especially as an adult, although commonly recorded as a leaf mine.
