Similar Species -
Pupa: Pupates in dense spindle shaped cocoon
Observations: This small moth,like its common name of Nettle-tap is often found in good numbers around clumps of Stinging Nettles Urtica dioica.
The Nettle -tap is easily reconised by the two white markings along the egdges of the costa and with no spots on the forewing whereas the similar species P.sehestediana Fabricius, 1776 has markings along the costa and numerous spots on the forewings.
The other similar species Apple leaf Skeletoniser has no white markings along the costa.
The moth is a day flyer and occasionally comes to light.
The larval food plants all comes from the Urticaeae genus (Nettles)
